With the changing of the seasons, I have made a major change in my own professional life. After eleven great years at JSM Management, I have left the company and have started Guth & Associates, a boutique commercial real estate firm that is affiliated with Fairlawn Real Estate. It is important to me to keep Guth & Associates a small firm that provides personalized, focused attention to each of my clients. For 28 years, I have been involved in some form of economic development work and I believe these experiences provide me with a unique set of qualities in the commercial real estate arena.
I'm pleased to provide an overview of a few of the successes at Guth & Associates in the past few months.
- American Dowell - Guth & Associates assisted the owners of American Dowell, Travis & Deanna Eastin, in the acquisition of their new facility at 4812 N. Cunningham Avenue. American Dowell was previously located on North Mattis Avenue. This acquisition included ten acres of property and three warehouse buildings. American Dowell will occupy the north building and leases the other two buildings to warehouse users.
- FIRA Boutique - Pleased to have helped FIRA Boutique secure a small warehouse space on Country Fair Drive. FIRA Boutique has a retail location at Gregory Place in Urbana and recently expanded their business to include online sales. The warehouse location will serve as their fulfillment center as well as provides a venue to photograph their new clothing lines.
- B Fit Personal Training - Guth & Associates secured a lease on behalf of Mellander Holdings, LLC for the vacant storefront space at 105 S Walnut in downtown Champaign. B Fit is owned by Alicia Beck and will be opening in early November.

Over the past year, I have collaborated with the UI Research Park (UIRP) and Champaign County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) staff on a new marketing campaign geared towards our high tech companies and employees. The You're Welcome Campaign provides resources to local high tech companies in the recruitment/retention of high tech employees in Champaign-Urbana. The campaign is jointly funded by the UIRP, EDC and local businesses. Recently, the new website was unveiled and is already receiving much activity. I would encourage you to visit the website at www.yourewelcomecu.com.
I've been asked many times who are my associates? Well, my one associate is named Bo and is an aging West Highland Terrier that spends most of his time on the couch in my home office. He appears to have some motivation issues and we are working through an employee improvement plan. Be sure to follow me on Twitter @jlguth for occasional photos of Bo in action.
Until next time, have a great day!
